  • The Castellammarese War (1929-1931) - The leaders of the Castellammarese War were Salvatore Maranzano of the future Bonanno Crime Family against Joe "the Boss" Masseria of the future Genovese Crime Family. The war is famous for Lucky Luciano playing both sides against one another and then, after killing Joe Masseria, killing Salvatore Maranzano in order to create the National Crime Commission with the help of Alphonse Capone, Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Sigel, Joe Profaci, Joe Bonanno, Frank Costello, Vito Genovese, Stefano Magaddino, Owney Madden and other gangsters from across the country.
